BRAHMAS DROP THIRD STRAIGHT WITH 5-3 LOSS TO DENVER
SLOW START HINDERS FORT WORTH
DENVER, Colorado (November 2) - The Brahmas (1-3-1) lost their third consecutive game after falling to the Denver Cutthroats 5-3 Friday night.
Denver came out strong to begin the game, taking a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. The Cutthroats got first-period powerplay goals from J.P. Chabot and Markus Lauridsen and an even-strength goal from Brad Smyth.
Despite the early deficit, the Brahmas came out with a new energy in the second period. Brendon Hodge got Fort Worth on the board just 51 seconds into the middle frame as he fired a slapshot by Denver netminder Kent Patterson. For Hodge, it was his team-leading third goal and fourth point of the young 2012-2013 season.
Midway through the second period, the Brahmas added two quick goals to even the score at three goals apiece. The first came on a Phil Fox score off of a Tomas Klempa set-up, and the second was finished by defenseman Joe Tolles.
The Cutthroats would regain the lead before the end of the second period though, as Smyth cleaned up a loose puck infront of the Brahmas net to record his second goal of the night.
Fort Worth was unable to get the equalizer in the third period, and Brett Lutes added a late score to extend the Denver lead to 5-3.
Brahmas goaltender Larry Sterling stopped eight of the 11 shots he faced before being replaced by Brad Fogal for the start of the second period. Fogal made 17 saves on 19 Denver shots through the final two frames and takes the loss despite inheriting a 3-0 deficit. Patterson turned away 17 of the 20 shots he faced between the posts for the Cutthroats, earning his second win of the season.
Fort Worth closes out its current four-game road trip with a rematch versus the Cutthroats on Saturday, November 3. The Brahmas are back at the NYTEX Sports Centre Friday, November 9 and Saturday, November 10 at 7:30pm when they take on the Tulsa Oilers. Sunday, November 11 at 4:00pm, Fort Worth hosts the Wichita Thunder for the first time this season.
In an effort to reward fans for their patience this off-season, the Brahmas have reduced individual ticket prices, as well as lowering the price of full-season, half-season and 11-game ticket packages for the 2012-2013 season.
